Since Lefkada is linked to the Greek mainland with a semi-permanent bridge, there are no ferry connections between Lefkada and any location on the mainland. So, it is very convenient to reach the island by bus or by car. It is just 23 min drive from Aktion International Airport. Because of the land connection, there are no direct ferries from Athens to Lefkada. However, there are ferries departing from other Ionian islands (Ithaki, Kefalonia, and Meganisi) that can get you to Lefkada (either arriving at the port on Nidri or at Vasiliki port).
Apart from using the public means of transport, the best way to reach easily and quickly your destination from any of these ports is by car or by taxi.
Flights near Lefkada
There is no airport on the beautiful island of Lefkada. The closest one is located in Preveza (Aktion). Aktion National Airport is just 20Km from the town of lefkada (23min drive) and receives flights from Corfu and Zakynthos all year round, while during summer there are many extra flights from various locations around Europe. Notice that no flights from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” to Aktion National Airport are carried out.
From Preveza, you can easily reach Lefkada by KTEL bus or by taxi, since the island is linked to the mainland with a bridge. You can find further information about timetables of buses here.
